Stanbic IBTC, Foundation present library to Lagos school

A foundation, Zaccheus Onumba-Dibiaezue Memorial Libraries and the Stanbic IBTC bank have donated a library to Araromi Baptist and Ereko Methodist primary schools, Lagos Island.
The two bodies said they entered into a partnership with a view to building a good foundation for the pupils at the basic education level.
Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Ufuoma Esiri, said it will apply to the National Youth Service Corps to deploy a corps member to the school to manage the library.

Esiri said the gesture was part of the foundation’s efforts aimed at ensuring that pupils have access to well-equipped libraries.
Esiri said, “The importance of libraries to education cannot be overemphasized. What we are doing in collaboration with our partners is to identify public primary schools which lack this all-important educational facility on Lagos Island and provide them with them.
“We have done this in a number of schools and we hope to have this in 20 schools before 2105. It will be a welcome development to have well trained librarians deployed by the state government to man them. But in the absence of this we will request for corps members to assist with the guidance of these children.”
Head of Legal Services at Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, Angela Omo-Dare, said the company partnered with the foundation to equip the library with books as part of its corporate social responsibility.
“Our members of staff felt it was a good vision to impart the lives of these young ones and that was why we decided to pull resources together with our little contribution to provide them with these books,” she said.
Assistant Director, Basic Education Services, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Olayiwola Sanni-Owo, stated that the library will go a long way in ensuring that the pupils imbibe the reading culture at the early stage.
According to him, the state government was ready to partner with the private sector to boost education in the state.
“The two bodies have created a good impression on the children. Definitely this will help the children to develop themselves and imbibe the reading culture. We will continue to encourage private sector to come to our aid,” he added.
