Firm provides N5m books to Oyo schools
Wife
of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, has received books
worth N5m from Heinemann publishers to complement her ‘Educate a Rural
Child’ project, the News Agency of Nigeria reported on Thursday.
The Senior Special Assistant on Social
Welfare in her office, Mrs. Sandra Kolade, who received the books on
her behalf, said the books would be distributed to ERC intervention
primary schools, as library resource materials.
According to her, the books comprise 27 titles in children’s novel on HIV/ AIDs and stories.
“The books will be distributed in 10 local government areas of the state.
“The areas are Irepo, Iwajowa, Isokan,
Afijio, Atisbo, Ibarapa East, Olorunsogo, Orelope, Saki West and
Surulere with each council receiving 1,360 books,” she said.
She reiterated the state government’s
commitment to taking qualitative education to children in the rural
areas, promising that all the books would get to the right places.
Chairman of the publishing firm, Mr. Ayo Ojeniyi, noted that books were indispensable tools to education.
According to him, the books will facilitate quality education in schools.
Ojeniyi said primary education should be accorded priority as it was the foundation on which other phases of education rested.
“It is based on the company’s conviction
that the ERC project will create access to well equipped libraries in
the rural areas of Oyo State that we are making this donation,” he said.
He further promised Heinemann’s partnership with ERC would continue.
He commended the governor’s wife for her initiative, describing it as a worthy project.
Ojeniyi expressed hope that the books
would develop literacy and skills and impact positively on the lives of
the beneficiaries.
